Public Transit

1. As a new Councilor, I will fight to extend the Yonge/University Subway line from Finch to Steeles and extend the Sheppard line to Downsview to make a better system. I would pay for this expansion by recommending a $1 toll fee from the 905 commuters. There are approximately 60,000 daily riders from the 905 area just north of Steeles, which could generate $2 million dollars every month and pay for the expansion in as little as a decade.

2. I will fight to introduce double-decker buses to use in the busiest routes. TTC currently has no adaptation plans towards the Double-decker bus nor Mini bus.

  • The cost of each double-decker bus is $800,000. It is just $66,000 more than a Hybrid Electric bus and $140, 000 less than the extended bus/bended bus.

  • No more extended bus/bended bus. Each unit takes up double the road spaces due to their horizontal design, this is unhelpful to the gridlock and congestion in major cities like Toronto.

3. Mini bus for residential areas with smaller mobility demands. Mini buses are by far the cheapest and most convenient solution for improving bus services within smaller community segments. We have all seen the empty and noisy buses running on small residential routes. The efficiency of Mini buses is a well-proved concept used in notorious gridlock countries like Korea, Japan and Hong Kong. The Mini bus will cost less than half the unit price and half the maintenance, and it is a lot friendlier and less noisy for our community.

4. Coordinate with rideshare program to improving transit system. Adding buses cannot be the only solution for making transit network better. We are living in 21st century and we must make way for new technology to help us make the city more efficient.

Traffic

Every day, Torontonians and Willowdale residents face long hours commuting to and from work. Here are my priorities to reduce the gridlock.

1. Civic Action; A major reason why we experience gridlock is that thousands of people are going to work and coming home at the same time. The city can encourage people and companies to be more flexible in work schedules in Toronto to avoid traffic period and promote this civic action.

     · I support Torontonians to take up the BMW Civic Action challenge. I want to see each one of use the Bicycle, Metro, or Walking at least twice a week to get where we are going. This Civic Action can create multiple positive chain reactions to the community.

     · If you ride your bicycle to work and shop at local markets, it will reduce greenhouse gases and also help reduce gridlock.

    · Use Metro/Public transit often to help public transit to improve its services and reduce gridlock.

     · Walk more and shop locally to help promote small businesses and improve your health.

2. Adapting Smart traffic light system starting from major intersections.

3. Introducing traffic Warden on Morning and Evening rush hours in transition of  installing STL.

4. Build overpass south east entrance of Yonge 401.

5. $1 toll charge from 905 area: The traffic from north of Steeles is pressurized by the population of Richmond Hill and Thornhill which includes about 300,000 people. I will execute a toll charge of $1 per day and reinvest that money into better transit systems so that the 905 people can leave the car at home and utilize a more connected transit system.
